About Drew Allen
Drew initiated his professional journey at a prestigious boutique tax firm in San Francisco, laying the foundation for his subsequent establishment of Allen Tax Law. This invaluable experience afforded him the opportunity to serve as second chair in numerous criminal and civil tax trials, honing his expertise in complex tax litigation.
Subsequently, Drew dedicated eight years to the internationally renowned law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP. During his tenure, he collaborated with esteemed tax attorneys on some of the most significant cases in U.S. Tax Court history. Notably, he contributed to *Medtronic, Inc. v. Commissioner*, widely recognized as one of the most consequential Section 482 transfer pricing disputes ever adjudicated.
Throughout his distinguished career, Drew has cultivated a sterling reputation within the legal community. He has garnered respect from colleagues, co-counsel at other firms, and government representatives from various agencies including the IRS, FTB, and DOJ. Drew’s professional approach is characterized by a focus on achieving optimal results for his clients while strategically avoiding unnecessary posturing that often complicates litigation proceedings in the United States.

Achievements
Drew’s professional trajectory is distinguished by numerous notable achievements, including a recent landmark victory in U.S. Tax Court. This case centered on the tax classification—as ordinary income or capital gain—of a substantial $23 million lump-sum settlement payment received by the taxpayer to resolve a contentious civil litigation. Following a rigorous three-day trial, the court issued a ruling in favor of the taxpayers, determining that the settlement award should be classified as capital gain. This decision resulted in significant tax savings for the clients, amounting to millions in taxes, penalties, and interest. This case exemplifies the many successful outcomes Drew has secured for his clients over his 15-year career.
As an active member of the Tax Sections of both the American Bar Association and the California Lawyers Association (formerly the State Bar of California), Drew demonstrates his commitment to professional development and knowledge sharing. He frequently delivers presentations on advanced and intricate tax issues, contributing his expertise to the broader legal community and furthering the field of tax law.
